Basic duties:
Supervise children grades K-5 in a group setting of 5 staff/50 children. Assist the Lead with scheduled activities as needed (prepping & participating in crafts, setting up & playing games, keeping the room clean, helping with homework & reading and being silly!). Be a counselor to the children first, and a friend second. Enforce rules. Help children be respectful to others & staff. Keep everyone safe. Have fun!

OVERVIEW:
Monitor and supervise a variety of youth programming. Organize and lead activities in a variety of environments and settings. Develop lesson plans & curricula related to youth afterschool program based on objectives and guidelines.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
1. Possess basic knowledge & skills related to assigned area of instruction.
2. Ability to work a flexible of hours with due notice.
3. Maintain current CPR & First Aid certifications (offered internally, must be certified within 30 days of hire).

1. Leading, interacting & supervising after school activities (arts, crafts, sports, group games, cooking, etc.) for children in grades K-5.

3. Responding to participant's, parents & staff questions, complaints or concerns immediately and professionally.
4. Communicating with the Leap Afterschool Program Lead & the Recreation Coordinator on an on-going basis.
5. Provide a fun, safe, creative & interactive afterschool experience for all participants by maintaining a positive attitude.
6. Responsible for the health & safety of students.
7. Maintain organization & cleanliness of facilities and equipment & supplies at the end of every activity.
8. Be calm & flexible during any unforeseen situations.
9. Promote a welcoming & friendly atmosphere.
10. Observe progress & discuss with students & parents when appropriate.
11. Set up & take down class equipment as necessary.
12. Recognize and promptly respond to safety hazards and emergency situations.
13. Maintain control of students & facility area at all times to ensure safe & effective classes.
14. Follow all Portland Parks & Recreation rules, policies & procedures.

Citywide Citywide Recreation Inclusion Assistant Portland Parks & Recreation is hiring inclusion assistants for our Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation program. Inclusion assistants work 1 to 1 with children with disabilities in preschool and afterschool programs, as well as sports and dance classes. These are part time positions (5-20 hrs/week), so they are a great opportunity for college students, especially those studying special education, autism, speech therapy, occupational therapy, etc. Full time hours are available during school holidays and during the summer.
