Organize and lead activities in a variety of environments and settings. Develop lesson plans & curricula related to youth afterschool program based on objectives and guidelines. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: 1. Possess basic knowledge & skills related to assigned area of instruction. 2. Ability to work a flexible of hours with due notice. 3. Maintain current CPR & First Aid certifications (offered internally periodically, must be certified within 30 days of hire). SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES: 1. Must be able to prepare & present lessons for appropriate programs & classes 2. Must be able to lead a class & educate/motivate class members. 3. Must be competent & knowledgeable in program area. 4. Ability to interact with a diverse group of students, parents and customers a positive friendly manner. 5. Ability to work in a team atmosphere promotion positive & effective working relationships with staff, volunteers & customers. 6. Ability to maintain self-control & composure in a fast-paced environment. 7. Ability to represent Portland Parks & Recreation in a professional manner. 8. Ability to follow directions & communicate verbally & in writing. 9. Must be able to adequately respond to safety & emergency situations. 10. Must be comfortable handling conflicts & responding to problems & student concerns. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Leading, interacting & supervising after school activities (arts, crafts, sports, group games, cooking, etc.) for children in grades K-5. 2. Demonstrating personal behavior of a responsible, professional & exemplary nature. 3. Responding to participant's, parents & staff questions, complaints or concerns immediately and professionally. 4. Communicating with the Leap Afterschool Program Lead & the Recreation Coordinator on an on-going basis. 5. Provide a fun, safe, creative & interactive afterschool experience for all participants by maintaining a positive attitude. 6. Responsible for the health & safety of students. 7. Maintain organization & cleanliness of facilities and equipment & supplies at the end of every activity. 8. Be calm & flexible during any unforeseen situations. 9. Promote a welcoming & friendly atmosphere. 10. Observe progress & discuss with students & parents when appropriate. 11. Set up & take down class equipment as necessary. 12. Recognize and promptly respond to safety hazards and emergency situations. 13. Maintain control of students & facility area at all times to ensure safe & effective classes. 14. Follow all Portland Parks & Recreation rules, policies & procedures. 15. Regular attendance at quarterly staff meetings. 16. Other duties assigned. Wage increases are determined by years of service plus satisfactory annual evaluations. All new employees will start at Step 1 unless they have demonstrated education or experience that meets the following criteria. A Recreation Supervisor must approve entry wage and wage progressions, and may override requirements for step increases. Employees must meet every requirement in each step to qualify for that step. This Class Instructor I works in our day program for people 50+ with developmental disabilities. This program runs from 8:30 -1:30 Monday Through Friday. The position is for 10 - 15 hours a week. Matt Dishman North/Northeast Recreation Class Instructor II Teen Outdoor Trip Leader will lead, supervise and engage teens during outdoor trips. The individual will lead a variety of outdoor adventures for teens. The types of outdoor trips will vary but the applicant should be comfortable leading 5-10 mile hikes and camping overnight with youth. The individual will be responsible for risk management of the outdoor trips while in the field and needs to be able to make good decisions based on changing conditions like weather and roads. The trip leader will be accompanied by a second leader or assistant on each trip. The teen trip leader will engage and mentor youth who are part of the teen outdoor trips. The applicant must carry a valid Wilderness First Responder certificate and feel comfortable using the skills should an incident arise. The applicant needs to be available on Tuesdays between June 23rd and the end of August and have some flexibility with other dates during the summer. Mt Tabor Sun School is recruiting for a Kurabu Japanese Camp Assistant Director. The ideal candidate will coordinate with and assist volunteer teachers; organize and coordinate additional guest volunteer demonstrators; Lead classes, activities, games, crafts, etc for students of different ages, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Provide a safe, welcoming environment for all students. Communicate with Site Manager and parents. Be flexible and adaptable to all situations. Assist Site Manager with other duties as needed. Also, be Fluent written and verbal Japanese language proficiency (some translation work will be required). Experience working with children ages 6-17 years old from diverse backgrounds.
