Citywide Citywide Recreation Camps PP&R SUMMER CAMPS - RECREATION COUNSELOR Position/s: Camp Counselor I, Camp Counselor II, Summer Playgrounds Counselor I, Summer Playgrounds Counselor II - This position is Union represented Camp Counselors organize, plan and lead a variety of activities including art, craft, music, performance, science, games, nature and sports in addition to supporting the physical, social and cognitive development of preschool and school-aged participants. Positions will be responsible for maintaining discipline and safety while monitoring youth, consistently modeling appropriate behavior, maintaining accurate program records, and performing maintenance duties as assigned. Some positions may require a valid Food Handler's Permit if assigned to a site with a free federal lunch program. Counselor hours are weekdays Mornings, afternoon, and early evenings. May work up to 40 hours a week. Summer Playground Counselors monitor drop-in recreation activities in area of assignment. Creates welcoming atmosphere, engages with park and facility guests, provides excellent customer service and is a resource for PP&R information. Monitors use of space and needs of guests, is proactive in addressing potential safety concerns, upholds the PP&R code of conduct, communicates with supervisor, rangers and security under established guidelines. Monitors participation and completes needed paperwork and record keeping. Summer Playgrounds hours are mornings, afternoons, and evenings. May work up to 40 hours a week. Citywide Citywide Environmental Ed. Day Camp Coordinator Portland Parks & Recreation are seeking staff for the Nature Day Camp, within the Environmental Education program. Environmental Education's Nature Day Camp program offers nine weeks of outdoor summer camps at three locations (Mt Tabor Park, Hoyt Arboretum, and Sellwood Park - location varies week to week.) Children ages 4-12 spend each day with trained naturalists playing in nature, learning ecology through games and exploration, and making friends in their traveling groups. Our Summer Coordinators work as mentors to other staff and our teen volunteers, and they work closely with parents and families to make camp a safe, fun, and educational place! Citywide Citywide Conservation (Outdoors) Environmental Education GRUNT is an outdoor program which connects diverse youth to nature and environmental careers through stewardship, environmental science, job readiness training and outdoor recreation. Our summer program meets Monday - Friday from approximately 9am - 5pm. We spend every day outdoors. GRUNT is a partner of the 9th Grade Counts Collaborative of All Hands Raised. This partnership strives to reach students in the gap between 8th and 9th grades, a time in which they are particularly vulnerable to dropping out of school. Citywide Citywide Recreation Inclusion Assistant As part of the Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation program, the Inclusion Assistant provides one one-on-one, on-site assistance to participants of all ages with physical, developmental and/or emotional disabilities as they integrate into general recreation programs. Duties include adapting activities, following inclusion or behavior plans, maintaining a safe environment and promoting a participant's success in a program. SUN School North/Northeast Sports & Fitness Instructor PP&R's Roseway Heights SUN Community School is a hiring a Sports instructor to teach a soccer class to middle school students on Wednesdays from 3:30pm-6pm. Students in the class have varying skill levels, and the focus is on building students social skills and providing a structured environment for them to scrimmage.
